About George Karyos
Born in 1930 in the village of Avgorou (today in the free part of Famagusta) He passed away on 28th of october 1958 in the general hospital in Nicosia after being wounded in Astromeritis. His brother was the EOKA martyr Andreas Karyos who fell in the battle in Liopetri, Georgios Karyos was disabled in one of his legs, due to a knee injury.
He worked as a train driver. He was active in the race since 1952, while he was in Athens. He talked everywhere about the struggle and the Union. He wrote poems, inspired and organized the youth for the struggle.
With the beginning of the armed action by EOKA, he took part in the attacks and ambushes of the groups in his area as a guard and beacon. He also transported fighters to the attack sites and was responsible for concealing their weapons.
