The brutal British occupiers brutally cracked down the peacefully protesting students.
After the uprising, the occupiers closed the school till September 1956.

Students of the Pancypriot Gymnasium, on the occasion of the arrest of some of their fellow students from previous incidents, climbed on the roof of the library to fight off the British soldiers.
