Biography

He was born in the village of Galata1, Nicosia district, in 1939.

He was murdered by the traitor M.A. in his hideout2 on October 8, 1957.

Chrysantos Mylonas finished Galata primary school and was a 5th grade student at the Greek Gymnasium of Solea3 when he was murdered.

He was initiated into EOKA in 1955 by his brother Kyriakos and was actively involved in recruiting students from the Gymnasium of Solea. He was very active and developed initiative, devoting all his time to carrying out various missions. Among his responsibilities were distributing leaflets, writing slogans and monitoring the movements of British agents.

In 1956 he was promoted to a group of Galata saboteurs, took on the task of hiding weapons with others and took part in ambushes.

In November 1956, as a mission leader, he blew up the bridge at the “Trooditissa Mill” in Galata with his team at the moment when an English major, the commander of the Kakopetria camp, was passing by.

From February 1957 until the beginning of September 1957, he was the right hand of his then sector commander with a very important contribution. Many activities of the Organization were carried out through him. During this time he was trained in the manufacture of bombs and other explosive devices in Nicosia.

In May 1957, following orders from EOKA, he and two other comrades undertook the construction of a hideout in his area, to receive a guerrilla group with two wanted persons. The hideout was located in the forest, above the village of Kaliana, and the group of the hero Evagoras Papachristoforou from Kato Amiantos, who was a first cousin of Chrysantos Mylonas, settled there. Chrysanthos took over the supply of the two guerrillas.

On the evening of October 8, 1957, Chrysanthos Mylonas, together with a fellow fighter, set out from their village, transporting the correspondence and food for the guerrillas, to their mountain hideout, five kilometers from Galata. There M.A. awaited them, who murdered Chrysantos by shooting him in cold blood. M.A. had previously murdered Evagoras Papachristoforou in their hideout. He then surrendered to the English with his weapons and continued his treacherous work until his escape to England.
