Biography

He was born in Troulloi1, on October 2, 1947.

He fell on 14 August 1974.

His family was large. As the eldest brother that he was – he had eight sisters and another brother – he shouldered great responsibilities in the family from a very early age. He was truly the supporter of his weary parents. But his siblings also found in him a valuable advisor and tireless helper. They were an admirable family. Both for its Christian principles and for the love between its members.

At the age of only 11, in 1958, he took the oath and became a member of ANE, that is, the Alkimos Youth of EOKA, which was the hope of the National Liberation Organization of Cyprus.

In 1961, at the unveiling of the bust of the EOKA hero Andreas Sourouklis, Michail took part in the ceremony, dressed in the EOKA guerrilla uniform.

He did his high school studies in Nicosia. On 5/4/1964, still a sixteen-year-old student at the Pancypriot High School, he enlisted as a volunteer in the newly established National Guard, to defend the homeland during the period of the Turkish rebellion.

He joined the army and fell fighting during the Turkish invasion on 14 August 1974.

As a sign of honor and gratitude to the hero, the Municipalities of Nicosia, Aglantzia, Engomi and Aradippou and the communities of Troulloi and Oroklini dedicated streets in his name.

In Troulloi, this hall of the Catechetical schools was dedicated to his name and the small church of Panagia 'Rodon to Amaranton' was built in his memory.

At the Georgios Karyos camp in Akaki there is a monument in honor of Georgios Karyos, EOKA fighter and Michail Zeniou, reserve second lieutenant along with the fallen of the 211th Infantry Battalion.
