Biography

Andreas Protopapas was born in Katokopia1 on May 29, 1937.

He passed away on 15/09/1961.

After the Primary School followed studies at Morphou High School and finally qualified as engineer, in order to help his father who had a drilling rig.

With the trumpeting of the E.O.K.A. "in arms for the freedom of our Cyprus", Andreas immediately declared himself present. Together with other competitors he took part in ambushes and sabotage as well as other activities, following her orders. At the same time, at the home of his parents, Kyriakos and Maria Protopapas, it often hosted militants and wanted persons.

Also interesting is the fact that for a certain period, while he was working during the day on behalf of the English, at night he was engaged in ambushes against them. On the occasion an execution, Andreas was captured and horribly tortured.

At the end of the fight, Andreas marries the chosen one of his heart, Anna Stylianou, also from Katokopia. The wedding, splendid, took place on the 4th December 1960.

However, the young couple was not to enjoy their life together for long. The horrible tortures of the English had left a deep mark on his body.

Only four months later, Andreas feels pain in his leg and the thorough examinations that follow demonstrate the underlying disease.

It follows his trip to England, where the doctors, in their attempt to stop the course of the disease, they subject him to amputation. Unfortunately he still passed away..

The community of Katokopia honored its hero by erecting a bust in its front yard old church of Chryseleousa2 which the invaders destroyed.
