Kallis Sakka graduated from Lysis primary school and was a farmer. At the same time, he practiced his father’s profession, weaving sacks and helping his disabled father in feeding his brothers.
He joined EOKA from the beginning of the struggle and undertook the printing of leaflets, also having the responsibility of hiding the polygraph. Later he was assigned the responsibility of hiding the armament of EOKA Lysis. Due to the seriousness of the work assigned to him, his involvement in other activities had been limited.
“On the night of August 23, 1958“, recounts the competitor of Panagis Larkos, “we had to move the Lysis weaponry to a safer place, following the arrest of two of our EOKA members who knew where it was hidden. This was a general order of Digenis. We split into two groups. On one side are me and the hero Michael Kaili from the rebel side. With us was also Kallis with the hero Dimitrakis Anastasi, in whose orchard we would hide the armament. We had everything, guns, grenades and ammunition, loaded onto two bicycles and pushed through the fields. The night was moonlit. English soldiers remained hidden in the shade of two trees. We were attacked by contact. Only me and Michael carried weapons. They threw at us and we threw at them. It was a matter of seconds. Michael managed to use one of his grenades as well. The other was later found in his hand. How I managed to escape through the torrential fire of the English soldiers was a matter of luck. Along with my three comrades who were killed on the spot, five English soldiers were also killed and another wounded.”
